Radha Poudel, A Global Peace Campaigner also the Author of Khalaanga ma Hamala

Moin Uddin

Radha Poudel, A Global Peace Campaigner

Do you know who she is and why she touched my hand with compassion?
She is not only a woman; she is more than what she is.

She is power. She is Hope. She is an Inspiration. She is a change-maker. She is a Dream. She is an Aspiration. She is a smile.

She is the author of Khalangaa ma Hamala – Radha Poudel, she'll be receiving a Prestigious Madan Purashkar on 26th September 2014, Friday –for her book which she unintentionally wrote, however never thought of winning the coveted award. A true inspiring and motivating women and it was an immense please to listen to her words.

After the program, I went and asked her, Didi, can I ask you a question and she said, "Please" and came by side and I asked her, what is one such word that keeps you moving? Though she shared many stories in a few minutes, however in every statement it was a change..A positive change....

And I asked her the final question, Dd, what do you expect from us, what can we contribute?... As soon as she heard, she saw my face with an immense gratification and she smiled and touched my hand with compassion and said quickly, why didn't you asked this question early when there were many people, as this was the question that I wanted to answer." and I said, it's never late and she said,"the perspective of seeing Nepal is totally different, we need to change it. It is not a choice to be born in Nepal or in any other places. There is an immense possibility in our country Nepal; I wish no any Nepali leave the country to work. instead they should stay here, and contribute in any other form, yes, it's not necessary to stay here in Kathmandu, just move around, go to Jumla or any other remote places.... there still is the need of a quality education, go there and share the knowing.....promote anything which  is beneficial to the society.

Her only plan and main agenda and inspiration that keeps her moving these days is the campaign with the  high aim in mind and spirit …she is struggling to make it happen all over the world .i.e. "Global Peace Campaign. People have understood peace in a different way."

And as she said that, I asked her another question and that was my final unofficial last question, Dd what is peace according to you? And she said,"The absence of war is not Peace. For me peace is something, where people don't have to live in hunger, in strike and in protest. We need safer schools and also we should be able to live freely without any sort of fear, so peace is a freedom for me."

And someone called her, she got busy and said  the driver had came to receive her, so it was a departure time, she saw me with the jovial eyes where I felt that she is my won sister and I am her own brother. She thanked me and we bid a bye......

Life is really beautiful – with good people around and having to share, listen and to see the lives of other getting prosper is what Radha dd want and I also wish the same for every human being.

Yes change is the need of an hour and we should get the freedom to live happily. I support for Equality :)

Money or Talent (Paisa ki Kala)

Asif Shah, Dipendra K Khanal and Rambabu  Gurung got together in a different show to talk about "Paisa ki Kala" at Ncell Nepal Literature Festival 2014, held at Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi. The program was moderated by Journalist Yagyas.

The moderators asked many questions to the guest and when ask about how the movie Karkash was made, the director Asif Shah said, "I invested my money in making Karkash. It's really difficult to get the investment back, however on happy note I recovered my investment in a year."

He added," while planning to make a movie, I was thinking of a theme and my house is in Nayabar and office at Babarmahal and in-between I there is Thamel, it's a tourist hub. At first I thought of making a movie where the story would take place in a single day and later, after seeing musicians playing the instruments and singing songs at the restaurants, I thought, why not to make a movie on this theme –band mates. So, the idea emerged in this way."

The moderator asked to Ram Babu Gurung, the director of the movie 'Kabbadi' regarding people perceiving it as a documentary movie, he said, "May be people said that, but at the end it became successful and also the investment was recovered and we also earned the profit."

Ram Babu shared how he came into movies,"My family tells me to go to the foreign country, but I didn't want to go, I want to stay here and I knew only what I know to do .i.e. film making and tried and eventually I became successful."

When asked regarding the question to the director Dipendra K Khanal of the movie 'Chapali Height', What is necessary in the industry and what time demands in this moment in making a movie?" he said, "the need of an hour is –everyone should be competent- be it actor, director and other stakeholders too. Unless and until they don't try to come and be competent, the industry will not flourish." He added, "I left Seven Movies after Jholey as I didn't have the script that made like in making a movie."

What is the inspiring or motivating factor for you in making or to keep on continuing making movies, where Asif said, "I always talk and the subject that I choose is only of making movies when I am with my friend."
He also said about his future project, "Right now, I am working on a theme Raktachandan, so I am researching on it and it has been five years that I am continually researching –sometime I put some other thing on the script and sometime I cut off and fill it with other ideas. So I am just researching. "

When the audience queried regarding, why the movies are released in a same day, why do they compete each other and who does that so? Dipendra answered ," The producer does so, they don't think about the future effects and they think that their movies are only good and only their movies will perform better and rule the market and earn a profit – due to their own ego the movies compete and no-one gets the share that they should have gotten. I myself went and had suggested them- humbly– that it shouldn't be done; audiences get divided when many films are released in a same day, so it's not good. "

How do the Nepali cinema get the markets and this question was answered by Asif, he said, "the film festivals are the platform for us to get the market."

In a humorous way he said, "Still I am playing a small –small game, not a big–big game, maybe it's because of lack of motivation."

Why are good movies not being made, where Dipendra said, "we are trying to write a good compelling script and still we didn't have had – So, we are not making movies these days? We'll make after discussing with our friends –Asif, Ram Babu and with our other friends too."

There is still a same like sad story, the same problem that most faces –as the Nepali movie industry itself is small and still most actors receive their payment in envelope where Asif shared a short story of his friend, "My friend who is also an actor, he said that the payment we get is like going to a home in Dashain and while Putting Tika as a Dakshina – our elders sometimes gives Rs100 and sometimes Rs 100, however I didn't do so, I gave a cash to my Actors."

Celebrity Gossip

On the last day of Ncell Nepal Literature Festival 2014 which was held at Pragya Bhawan at Kamaladi where M&S chief Editor Samriddhi Rai as a moderator and Media person Malvika Subba, Actress Priyanka Karki and film maker Nilu Doma Shepa as a panelist talked on the topic "Celebrity Gossip".

The three of them shared their own definition of Celebrity .i.e. the one who is liked by the most of the people, who tries to get a glimpse and struggles to watch the movie and also appreciate his/her work widely by the larger audiences are the celebrity and they said Rekha Thapa is only one Actress who is a true celebrity in Nepal.

In the program, the gossip that made front news in the media .i.e. the wardrobe malfunction of Priyanka where her Panty was highlighted and promoted, but in reality according to her it was a T-shirt, however media promoted and published it in other way.

Malvika as well as Priyanka and Nilu Doma agreed that the media demands female. And their bodies are liked the most, than that of the men, so women are targeted the most.
There were many gossips that took place past couple of weeks ago – Sahana Bajracharya shaking the car in the midnight at Chitwan with her co-worker, Anju Panta not willing to sing a religious song  and so on .

When one of the audiences asked question that why can't movie be made without putting vulgarity and exposing the body where Nilu Said,"To some extent yes, but that is not possible in today's age, the audiences demand's, I don't think that can be done."
Priyanka Said, "I enjoys my  roles in movies, I did a role of a prostitute, but equally enjoyed portraying it and I also don't feel like – I was discriminated doing that roles and also I have done women empowering movies." When the question was asked to her that why women are given or are made to do the dominating roles.

To the new comers who wants to step the ladder in this field, Malvika Suggested that the girls should be tough and be able to raise a voice when injustices' are done to her and be mentally strong to face the criticism."

Priyanka said ,"One should have a deep passion –be it male or female, don't think it's easy, it's more difficult than it seems and be ready to work at odd hours as it's not 9 to 5 job. If one fails, people tag you with different names. If you lack passion and only want to explore for just fun, then this field is not for them."

So what would you like to say it to the gossip writer?

Malvika said, "Just keep the two side story, don't just go one-sided and write anything that one likes, write after knowing the actuality, I suggest them to write two sided story."

Nilu Doma, "Have a concern before you write. Don't try to destroy the life of a person, don't just write to bring traffic in the online portals and to the magazines and to the newspapers –just put yourself in the other person's shoes and think what one would feel like if their own daughter, sisters news gets published…and then write…"

Priyanka, "My wardrobe malfunction was sponsored, so it was difficult for me to get rid in Face Book as it was always there. Our life is Public; we are there to entertain you. There should be win-win situation for both of them .i.e. for an actor as well as to the gossip writer. Good Publicity, Bad Publicity, after all it's publicity. I want the gossip writer writes news that carries positive meaning which would inspire and motivate the readers from my work. "

The other different story was heard by their experiences, when asked why you women don't get together and raises a voice, where Priyanka Said,"If we get united then we are left in a lurch, the media abandon us. Actress Keki Adhikari had liked my Face Book Page and also she commented supporting me –her news was out casted by many media after she supported me. So there is a huge problem in it."

On the ending note the three of them agreed that glamour is needed in the media where Malvika said she likes working behind the scene than to come at the front of the camera, she confessed that she can't handle criticism easily as she is a Cancarian and it happen as a nature. So, for me I like working backstage."

Also Priyanka Said that while on the media and to attend the function one should be conscious in wearing clothes and taking care of the dresses and the position they sit. She wore a yellow one piece dress and had crossed her leg and said, "we should be very careful and if my leg gets tired and If I  try to remove it then the media are there sitting down of this stage and they will click the pictures so, one should be careful and most often we are careful."

Malvika said, "I check my dress more than 1000 times before I step out of my home and I make sure that nothing gets reveled from anywhere. its really tough for me."

Sashi Tharoor in Nepal Literature Festival 2014

Moin Uddin

Sashi Tharoor in Nepal Literature Festival 2014

It was one of the most awaited program, "Politician as a Writer" where lots of people of different profession gathered to listen to the most powerful politician of India Shashi Tharoor  at Ncell Nepal Literature Festival held at Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi.

He isn't only a politician by profession, however he's also a prolific writer and it was pleasure to see him---- live---- with my own naked eyes, by the way I was wearing a spectacle– so not completely by naked eyes..... And got a rare chance and I think– I am the luckiest one among the audiences present there to have a picture with him... I am just behind him wearing a red frame spectacle....

When asked him about the question by the moderator, Hari Sharma regarding writing, Tharoor said, "To write one needs time and effort and to write a fiction one needs a larger time."

"Reading has to be pleasure, in my days I used to read it quickly. Reading and writing was my task at school," Tharoor said.

He also encouraged the parents to let their children to read the books –be it of any genre –not putting any barriers, as they might find the books and genre that suits them only when they read varieties of books.

He also said he had written many articles as well as book review for notable magazines and online portals.

When asked him about the connection between being a writer and a politician, he said there is a contrast relationship between the two characters, writing is a solitary activity. A Politician is always gathered by the people and also with his thoughts, but the writer is most often alone. To be a writer s/he must enjoy with the words.

When asked him about his active use of social media and why he uses it, Tharoor said, "I use social media for everything. Today I used it to promote Nepal Tourism. I visited Basantapur, Patan and many other places and yes, I also use it for my political reasons."

When asked him about sports, he said jokingly, "I wanted to play cricket badly and yes, I played cricket badly." hearing upon this answer the audiences laughed.

He said, "I became the reader as I didn't have any other option than to read the books."
