Mockery Of The Gods:Moin Uddin

-MOIN UDDIN

It is said that the most beautiful creation on this earth are humans, but after analysing their behaviour, I have come to understand that the ugliest creation is also the very human. Since my childhood, I have always wondered why cows are treated badly, why dogs and other animals are treated harshly. Why do we behave meanly towards the birds? What mistakes have they made? Why are reptiles killed?
The cow is worshipped as Goddess Laxmi. On Laxmi Puja, people worship her by offering food and treating her kindly. But when the same cow happens to eat saag or other vegetables from a grocery shop, she is beaten badly by the shopkeeper or vendor. When a traffic jam is caused by a stubborn cow sitting in the middle of the road, people curse and shout at that very god. It's really strange. Does anyone talk harshly to a god?
The crow who remains unlucky throughout the 364 days of the year is worshipped and fed on the ay of Kag Tihar. Why so? Why is it that people think something bad will happen when they hear a crow crowing from the top of a house?
Everyone is familiar with the festival "Rakshya Bandhan" where a sister ties the rakhi (sacred thread) around the wrist of her brothers or self-made brothers, assuming they will protect her. Yet we hear of these same brothers devastating the lives of their sisters – some even selling them in brothels or sexually abusing them.
There is a particular day called 'looking at the father's face or mother's face' Yet there are many sons and daughter who consider their parents a burden. We've heard cases of children dumping their parents in old age homes to lead a lonely life. But these same children will turn up with gifts to pay respects to their parents on Father or Mother's day. What a shame.
I watched a programme on Youtube in which Narendra Modi, then Gurjarat's chief minister, was a guest. The presenter had said, "People have started worshiping your pictures. How do you feel about this?"
Modi had replied, "I feel bad... people can never be god, and what the people are doing is wrong." His answer greatly satisfied me.
I thought only humans had problems. It seems god too has problems, and we are the trouble makers. Because of us, the gods are facing humiliation. It's said that god lives in the heart of the people, but how can god live there when we have planted the seed of demons? How can people live freely, happily and without fear when the gods themselves are not getting to live accordingly?
