Living in the same hope… (A short story)

Moin Uddin

She wondered many times why do relationships break and question’s how does there exits some kind of beautiful hope which triggers down the thin line of relationship to strengthen further?

She pondered, we try so hard from our side to make the relationships stronger however due to intended or unintended behavior of the person paves the way to depart from one another’s life despite we meet often times in any other way of life, but instead of creating some kind of nostalgic feeling it heats the temple which make the scenario worse and eventually upon being and seeing them continuously in some occasions the fate turns into some horrible classical events.

This happens and we are not exception.

We as a human being love and value the person until and unless they don’t cross the line set by our viewings. And we hate them when they cross the borders. Anyhow we might accept or reject the universal item that we live by the notion which sets our thoughts. We want to be loved, cared and our voice to be heard, but when without logic the other person who forces their concerns makes life tougher for both the parties.

One, she makes the thing worse by demeaning our perception and the other, she creates one hater and discards herself from all the love and attention and support that s/he used to get when s/he didn’t counter attacked the views laid.

She has a nice story to tell, are you free from all other tasks to know it?

Ok, thank you so much. Here we go…

She had a good friend. He was introvert but was talented in many activities. He was silent but was loud in his ambition. People thought he won’t achieve anything in life and even his parents thought his life will be tougher and he’ll not get along with the people. The last line said by his parents was true. He’ll not get along with the people; yes he never got tuned with the people as they belittled him. The reason was he was shy, he didn’t talked much, nor he approached others to be a friend nor others who came to be his friend were being able to be friends with him. He tried his best to be friends but his shy nature and the other reason was, he was poor, which made him feel awkward to go outings with them, mostly to the tea shop and sometimes to other venues to have fun. He wanted to go but the fear of paying the money would haunt him. At the meantime only his pocket money was Rs 10 a day which he would save a half and with the other Rs five he bought the cigarettes, that also a cheap one which fulfilled his thirst twice, one in the morning and the other in the evening when he returned home.

He wanted to be a body builder. He was good at karate and even he got selected for a street drama. He performed well. The actor approached him to work with them, he happily said yes .The next day the same actor got surrounded with other crew to perform, he waited for seven hours but it was not easy to meet him. The crowds were large and the actor was escorted into a car. Her friend thought the chances are slim to meet him and returned home.

The next day he went again, some people were talking sitting in a tea shop that the actor who performed so nice died while performing a dangerous stunt. The newspaper was placed on the tea table. He read the news that the Drama Actor ‘Mathema Sankhar’ died yesterday while performing a stunt… He didn’t continue reading the news, he stood up, sighed, took a deep breathe, prayed for his departed soul and walked away.

It has been three years and his dreams are still unfulfilled. One day she met him and offered for a tea, he immediately said, “Chiya khuwauney bhaye khuwa, ma sanga ta paisa chaina…” If you want to offer a tea then it’s okay, otherwise I don’t have any money… she said yes, I’ll pay, come on let’s go. She listened to his story and felt sorry for him.

People are so bad and mean most of the time. And the people like her friend become a victim of those people who take advantage of their sincere dreams, they use it for their personal benefit and abandon showing the same hope again…and her friend in spite of having a caliber gets into the situation knowingly that they are using him, why this happened? Because he didn’t have any good option, he was just working as a general staff at the gym. His dream was to be a body builder and to win the medals competing in the competition but the ones whom he thought would help him provide a platform only showed a hope saying, ‘huncha huncha, ek dui din ma timi lai rakhihalcha ni…’ it’s ok, you will be hired within two to three days…and this saying, he heard since last three years, the ones who came after him got the admission and were even given an opportunity to compete, but they didn’t performed well. He cried so many times, prayed so many times, went to the office and asked of his employment process, but everyone would say the same thing ‘huncha huncha, ek dui din ma timi lai rakhihalcha ni…’

In the meantime he got to meet plentiful of people from a cobbler to a minister and powerful businessmen, but they behaved like butter when he was in front of them and they sliced a jam on him like the jam is put on bread. They showed only hope; the same hope that common people are forced to live with despite knowing it’s the fake hope. But life has to continue, and with again a same hope of getting a nice day someday, the bogus hope again lured…

He was frustrated. He wanted a job, anyhow. He didn’t see any hope that he’ll get a job so he started asking every possible people whether they could provide him any job. He was even willing to broom the floor or to be a waiter. Also he was ready to work as a guard in the office which could give him a paltry salary, from which he could buy the necessaries, also a cigarette.

The other day he went again to the gym and the same person who showed him the hope got the information from some other buttering staff. He arranged the meeting and called him for a final interview. Though, he had already appeared for an interview before he joined the gym. The same person had taken the interview but this time there was other person too. They asked my friend some questions and he answered them all in full vigor. After few questions he was said to go…

He felt he’ll get selected. Again he was shown a hope and till yet he is just working there as a general gym staff without a salary with a hope of being hired and someday to play internationally and win a medal and the newspaper people would come take an interview and publish his photo with a trophy and his family members would feel proud of him and would regret for saying that he was of no use…

But the reality is, he is still living in the same hope…
